Great Dolomites drive - photos along the way

After Carezza Lake, the scenic drive continued through many small villages, each filled with classic alpine architecture and flower window boxes.  Canazei and Ortisei were my favourites.  I remembered Canazei's name as Can I Stay here 😃 and I think it was close to the paragliding point, Sam if you are crazy enough to want to do that.

As we drove along the road in the photo below, Alessandro asked "Do you see the black speck at the very top of the mountain?  That's where you are going"
Yikes.  Sass Pordoi here I come.

Apparently the thermal currents in the area make it a dream location for paragliding, as they can remain airborne for 30-40 minutes.  There was an international competition on here the following weekend.  I couldn't believe how many were in the sky at one time, but couldn't find them in shot when zoomed.  We counted 25 - 30.

Nearly all of the towns have signs in three languages, Italian, German and Austrian.  In one town very close to the border, Italian isn't included, even though it is in Italy.  "Ladin" is the third language included here.  It is a combination of Latin/Roman and German Bavarian, unique to the area.

  1. I’m just wondering, how on earth are you going to sort these photos into super duper down to super? No way. Then, you do have the challenge for the rest of the trip to find even better locations.....Impossible I’d say! Then you have the poor sods like me who have no way of even finding one image that will be as classy as yours....We’ll still have fun trying won’t we? Love your photos and blog💕💗.
PS. Jonathan loves it all too but hasn’t managed to find a way to make a comment yet.
